Welcome to the Algorithmic Era

A big thing is happening in marketing.

Global ad spend is about to hit $1 trillion. That’s a lot of money.
(Source: Dentsu)

Dentsu says ads are growing faster than the world’s economy, and more than 70% of ads are now run by algorithms.

They call this the Algorithmic Era.

Fancy name. Simple meaning.

Ads don’t “start and stop” anymore

A long time ago (okay, not that long), ads worked like this:

  • You launched a campaign
  • You waited
  • You checked results

Now? Not at all.

Ads are more like a video game that never pauses.
They change all the time. They learn. They adjust. They try new things.
And they do this using signals you never see.

Why this matters

Here’s the important part:

98 out of 100 people don’t buy or sign up the first time they visit a website.

They look.
They leave.
They come back later. Maybe.

So performance isn’t about one ad or one click.
It’s about what happens over many visits.

The real job today

Because ads are run by algorithms, the job isn’t just “run ads” anymore.

The job is:

  • Setting the rules
  • Feeding the right signals
  • Watching what happens
  • Stepping in when things go weird

Think of it like teaching a smart robot.
If you teach it well, it helps you.
If you don’t… it makes very expensive mistakes.

Where AI fits in

AI is very fast.It can look at lots of numbers at once.

It can spot patterns.

But AI doesn’t know your business.

It doesn’t know what really matters.

That’s still a human job.

How we think about it at OMS Performance

At OMS Performance, we don’t just “turn ads on”.

We watch how everything works together:

  • Ads
  • Pages
  • People
  • Time

AI is powerful.
Algorithms are smart.

But if nobody’s paying attention…

You’re not optimising.
You’re just feeding the machine 🤖
